MAY 2009 WEBLETTER Here we are again at Heffron. We are truly going to be at the mercy of the 'light' while we trial the next few months at Heffron. We will do our utmost to ensure bikes / equipment are ready to go so if we can rely on everyone to be punctual and efficient once they arrive, we will be sure to get some great cycling in. We will be focusing on lots of bike skills this season (groan I hear the juniors say) but remember! It is just as important to stay upright on your bike as it is to go fast! You can't actually have one without the other! Welcome back and remember to check the newsletter for any updates - sometimes I sneak things in when no-one is looking ........ Frank, Colin & Jo P.S. Frank and Jo are off for the month of June - touring France. Yes, tough but just needs to be done ...... .......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... KIDZ BIZ! Fun stuff for the kids! ES JSA Member Profile
This month we interview one of our gals and one half of the dynamic Cruickshank Boys! (sounds like a good title for a movie) Riddle of the Month
Q. A snail is at the bottom of a well and wants to get out. He manages to crawl up the wall 3 feet each day, but at night he must rest ( after all that work during the day ) and so he slips back down 2 feet. If the well is 30 feet deep, How long will it take him to get out? A. 28 days.....the snail averages 1 foot each day, so after 27 days he has reached 27 feet. On the 28th day he crawls up 3 feet during the day, but since he is now at 30 feet and out of the well he no longer slips back 2 feet. Joke of the Month
This months jokes comes from our Group 3 member Remie Bampton! Hit it Remie! Q. Why did the boy fall off his bike? A. Because his Mother threw a fridge at him ...... ummmmm ........ nice Mother ....... Happy Birthday to Who?

Westfield Junior Point Score Series!
We had a fantastic first season for our Westfield Junior Point Score Series. Congratulations to all who took part and well done to the place winners. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. It is very important that to continue this programme the same firm commitment is made by all participants as that made by the organisers.. If you intend to go away on holidays or are sick then drop us a line. Continuing absence without notice however, will mean we will offer the bike to a child on our waiting list. We prefer to see children and parents make a commitment to cycling the whole year through as if your child opts out to take part in another sport we cannot guarantee the bike will still be there when you decide to return. Now Remaining at Heffron for Winter!
As the season heads for winter please remember to bring along a jacket for your child to put on after cycling. They will also need to be appropriately dressed for the weather during winter training. A good item is the age old skivvy, put it under their t-shirt and the long arms are most welcome when there is a chill in the air and they can still be pulled up it they get hot. Something else you may consider are the Skins range of clothing. You can buy the long sleeve undergarment in small sizes which is perfect to double as a vest / arm warmers. We return to Heffron Tuesday 28th April with our last day for term 2 being Tuesday 7th July. Sunday Cycle Group Members of Groups 1 and 2 take part in their very own bunch ride each Sunday morning. It is imperative with winter coming on that the children are appropriately dressed. Arm warmers (or skivvy), long skins under cycling shorts and a wind vest are the most basic 'additional' items when guarding against the winter chill. The 1,2,3 (and more) of Tuesday Cycling Session!
Clothing is in! Hot foot it into Albion Cycles now and kit your child out in the fancy red, white and blue of the Eastern Suburbs Cycling Club and the Eastern Suburbs Junior Sports Academy. For special orders such as Wind Vests you can place your order by pre-paying using the order form linked to the clothing icons to the left. Please note when ordering clothing, if you order from the adults sizes then adult prices apply. Childrens range generally covers up to 11 years old. Academy Equipment As refusal often confuses or offends, we ask that you not make requests to borrow equipment belonging to the Academy. We make every effort to maintain the standard of the bikes and with over 40 bikes belonging to the Academy you can imagine it is a hard task to say the least. Parts are extremely expensive with items such as levers running into the hundreds. If we say yes to one, we must say yes to everyone and we cannot / will not loan 40 racing bikes out randomly. We sincerely ask for your understanding. Albion Cycles 10% Discount
New Academy Members We are currently running at full capacity so if you have a friend that would like to start cycling with us by all means pass on our contact details and we can see what we can do to help them get started. To avoid disappointment on their part however, we ask that you don't encourage them to come directly to the sessions without contacting us first as sad faces are the absolute ruin of our week :-( Duty of Care Our cycling programme is not a 'drop and leave' set up. We ask that parents remain at all times throughout the session. In the event your child sustains an injury it is only common sense that your presence will be the reassuring factor. To enrol your child with our cycling programme you must be prepared and willing to remain throughout the entire session. Please ensure you are present to collect your child once the session is over - please do not ask that your child come and seek you out in the car park. If your child is unwell any form of strenuous exercise will not improve their condition. We completely understand an absence due to poor health. Rest, get well and return to cycling ready and raring to go! Remember, our First Aid Officer Mrs Jenny Spurgeon is on hand each week to tend to any cuts and scrapes. We trust the parents will support us in our efforts to teach their children safe cycling and encourage a positive attitude toward sport.
