C Grade Breaks the A Grade Drought |
Tuesday 29th January 2008 |
||||
After three months C grade had finally done what it had been threatening to do for several weeks. Randwick Botany rider Brad McGarry made the best of the C grade bunch sprint to best East’s riders Adam Goc and Shane Howley. The C grade bunch has been riding well for weeks and on Tuesday night averaged around 41 km per hour on a fairly still night so it was not without surprise that C grade came in half a lap ahead of a combined A and B grade bunch. After riding well last week, B grade lost the plot this week and was all over the shop. It was no surprise that A grade caught it with five laps to go. Once A and B grade were together the pace picked up, but it was clear that C grade was going to have its day and some of the spark was lost from the combined group who started to think about placing within their own grades. Meanwhile back in C grade, the pace was high and Robert Rychter put in a massive effort on the last lap to string it out. Coming in to the straight DS Concy put in a big turn to lead out the Eastern Suburbs fast men, but it was Brad McGarry who was able to edge it past Adam Goc and Shane Howley just before the line with Tim Rice and Doug Hammond coming in close behind. In the battle for A and B grades, Robbie Cater was able to get over the top of Luis Trubea and the Eastern Suburbs duo of Aaron Richardson and Warwick Edwards took one and two over serial place getter Kevin Black.
