Willing Hits Form as the Big Guns Come Out to Play

Tuesday 15th January 2008

Property supremo Tim Willing always comes into form for the points series and 2008 has proven no exception as he draws level with Peter Fitzpatrick on the leader board.  All the big guns of Heffron and Sydney cycling turned up on Tuesday including the majority of the 2008 FRF Couriers UCI continental team.  All in all about 25 A graders took to the line and easily matched it with the numbers of B and C grade.  Willing showed a great turn of speed at the end to hold off the Peter McDonald of Drapac Porshe and fastman Peter Fitzpatrick.

With such a large and pumped up A grade, the B grade riders felt liked marked men as they lined up. Despite some good turns put in (and some not so good ones) A grade was upon them with 8 laps to go.  From there on in the attrition set in as B grade riders were shelled like prawns at a Sizzler all you can eat buffet.  With no shortage of massive engines to drive A grade it was another few laps until C grade suffered the same fate notwithstanding the return of Frank Conceicao to the C grade ranks for another season.

With all the grades together it came down to a ding dong battle royale for some and a battle for survival for others.  With a lap to go a few riders including Andrew East and Luis Trubea made a bid for freedom but were caught at the netball courts, Willing was able to use his position near the front of the field to position himself for the sprint and take the race ahead of McDonald and Fitzpatrick.  Luke Cridland and Stewart Campbell who is rumored to be looking for sponsorship from a tyre company came in 4th and 5th respectively.

Kevin Black was again able to latch onto the A grade express to win B grade over John Sunde and Mitchell Kable took out C grade honours for the week over Randwick Botany’s Alan Smith.
